The proposed work aims to use student partners to inform faculty on how to create equitable learning environments where belonging is a key component. Such initiatives are significant as Lafayette College seeks to become a need-blind institution, and the student population diversifies. Concurrently, these efforts are important as Muhlenberg College carries out a strategic plan to recruit and retain diverse students and faculty, and promote an inclusive climate. Increased awareness of diversity concerns and pedagogical strategies, in addition to the development of intra- and inter-institutional networks and sustainable resources are anticipated outcomes.
February 2020 – Present
Lafayette College was given permission to this grant award to support student partnerships during the Inclusive Instructor’s Academy for the 2020 – 2021 academic year. The 2020 – 21 student fellows will support faculty participants in the implementation of their inclusive teaching plans during the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 semester by performing classroom observations and engaging in debriefing sessions.
