Goal

To provide resources that help faculty design syllabi for their courses.

Overview

Syllabi are important documents for both faculty and students alike. They not only provide important logistical information for the course, they convey the goals of the learning experience, giving students  a roadmap for how they will be accomplished. Syllabi can also convey the teaching philosophy of the instructor, how the course is designed to be inclusive of learners as well as embrace diversity within the discipline with regards to content. The syllabus’ tone can also influence whether the course is seen as welcoming or merely contractual.

Resource

The Chronicle of Higher Education posted a comprehensive advice guide for creating a syllabus, developed by Kevin Gannon, which touches on a variety of aspects for designing a syllabus.
