Friday, December 11th | 11am – 12pm

How is generative AI reshaping your classroom? Join colleagues across disciplines for a virtual reading group examining Annette Vee’s The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching. Across four monthly sessions, we’ll move through the text and explore various facets of planning and teaching an AI aware course.

Whether you’re fully integrating AI tools or actively designing around them, this space is built for honest reflection, resource-sharing, and practical course design.

Writing Accountability Group

Thursdays | 10:30am – 12pm | 101 Hogg Hall

Fridays | 12 – 1:30pm |Virtual, via Zoom

Do you have a writing project with an impending deadline? Or one that keeps getting pushed to the back burner? Consider joining a supportive, structured writing accountability group designed to help faculty establish and maintain consistent progress on scholarly and creative projects. Returning this Fall, our writing group offers dedicated time, space, and support to help you meet your professional goals (with in-person or virtual meeting options). The aim is not to critique, but instead to focus on process, progress, and community. Session details to be determined based on participant feedback.

Share your interest in participating in the writing accountability group.

Communities of Practice & Belonging

CITLS collaborates with campus partners, including the office of the Provost, to facilitate and support a variety of communities of practice & belonging, in which small groups of faculty that share similar interests meet periodically to collaborate, share resources, learn a new skill or gain other expertise, network, hold workshops and events and more. This Fall, our continuing communities of practice & belonging will include: International Faculty & Staff, Immersive Technologies, and Generative AI. In addition, we plan to launch two new Communities: a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Community of Practice, and a Community of Belonging for Non-Tenure Track colleagues.  (More on these latter two coming soon.)

Learn more about these opportunities on the CITLS website or contact CITLS at CITLS@Lafayette.edu if you are interested in joining a community this Fall.

Navigating Challenging Moments in the Classroom Series

Preparing for Potentially “HOT” Classroom Conversations | Wednesday, October 14th | 12 – 1pm | Location TBD

Navigating and Reflecting on Potentially “HOT” Classroom Conversations | Thursday, November 5th | 12 – 1pm | Location TBD

CITLS and CWP are partnering to offer several workshops this term to help faculty anticipate, navigate, and reflect on “HOT” (heated, offensive, or tense) moments in the classroom.  Over the course of the series, we’ll discuss real-world scenarios and practice strategies to help our students (and each other) engage and disagree with respect, pause and reflect when emotions run high, and transition back to learning after stressful interactions.

Register to participate in the series.

Hanson Visiting Scholar, Mary Murphy

Campus Presentation -Cultures of Growth: How the New Science of Mindset Can Transform Individuals, Teams, and Organizations | Thursday, October 22, 2026 | 4:15pm – 5:30pm | Kirby 104

Come hear from Dr. Mary C. Murphy and learn about her research on growth mindsets. She’ll discuss how mindsets are not just individual beliefs; they are also shaped by classrooms, workplaces, and organizational cultures. These local cultures can either promote learning, collaboration, and inclusion or reinforce threat, fixed ability beliefs, and inequality.

Faculty Workshop – Classrooms of Growth: Growth Mindset Cultures that Spur Student Success | Friday, October 23, 2026 | 11:45am – 1:00pm | Wilson Room, Pfenning Alumni Center

Learn from Dr. Murphy on how to foster classrooms of growth that support student success. This interactive workshop will give you a chance to engage meaningfully on evidenced-based approaches to enhance your classes. She plans to share practical strategies for fostering a growth mindset culture in the classroom, with guided exercises that will help you adapt these practices to your own classes. Lunch will be provided.

Register to participate in the faculty workshop.

Student Pedagogical Partnership Program

This fall, CITLS will offer the Student Pedagogical Partnership Program again. You can opt-in and be paired with a trained Student Pedagogical Partner who observes your teaching and provides constructive feedback on the classroom experience.

While this is a fantastic, non-evaluative opportunity if you are new faculty developing and delivering your first courses at Lafayette, experienced faculty can benefit immensely as well. Whether you’re testing out a new teaching technique, launching a new course, or simply looking for a fresh perspective on a class you’ve taught for years, a student partner offers you valuable, real-time insight into the student experience.

Registration for Fall 2026 is closed. Check back to register for Spring 2027.

Teaching Squares Program

Looking to refresh your teaching and connect with colleagues across campus? Join the Teaching Squares Program this Fall!

Faculty are paired in small groups of 3 or 4 across disciplines to observe one another’s classrooms. The program offers a unique opportunity to see how peers teach, reflect on your own practice, and cultivate community—all in a supportive, non-evaluative space. It’s an easy, high-impact, low-lift way for faculty at any career stage to gain new perspectives and invigorate their teaching.
