Generative AI Programming
Get ready to engage with Generative AI in teaching and learning! This fall, CITLS is offering a rich lineup of events, including the ongoing Generative AI Community of Practice, a virtual reading group for The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching (Vee, Watkins, & Bruff, 2026), several workshops informed by this book, faculty Fellowships for AI-aware course redesign, and more!

Student Pedagogical Partnership Program
This fall, CITLS will offer the Student Pedagogical Partnership Program again. You can opt-in and be paired with a trained Student Pedagogical Partner who observes your teaching and provides constructive feedback on the classroom experience.
While this is a fantastic, non-evaluative opportunity if you are new faculty developing and delivering your first courses at Lafayette, experienced faculty can benefit immensely as well. Whether you’re testing out a new teaching technique, launching a new course, or simply looking for a fresh perspective on a class you’ve taught for years, a student partner offers you valuable, real-time insight into the student experience.
Teaching Squares Program
Looking to refresh your teaching and connect with colleagues across campus? Join the Teaching Squares Program this Fall!
Faculty are paired in small groups of 3 or 4 across disciplines to observe one another’s classrooms. The program offers a unique opportunity to see how peers teach, reflect on your own practice, and cultivate community—all in a supportive, non-evaluative space. It’s an easy, high-impact, low-lift way for faculty at any career stage to gain new perspectives and invigorate their teaching.
Writing Accountability Group
Do you have a writing project with an impending deadline? Or one that keeps getting pushed to the back burner? Consider joining a supportive, structured writing accountability group designed to help faculty establish and maintain consistent progress on scholarly and creative projects. Returning this Fall, our writing group offers dedicated time, space, and support to help you meet your professional goals (with in-person or virtual meeting options). The aim is not to critique, but instead to focus on process, progress, and community. Session details to be determined based on participant feedback.

Communities of Practice & Belonging
CITLS collaborates with campus partners, including the office of the Provost, to facilitate and support a variety of communities of practice & belonging, in which small groups of faculty that share similar interests meet periodically to collaborate, share resources, learn a new skill or gain other expertise, network, hold workshops and events and more. This Fall, our continuing communities of practice & belonging will include: International Faculty & Staff, Immersive Technologies, and Generative AI. In addition, we plan to launch two new Communities: a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Community of Practice, and a Community of Belonging for Non-Tenure Track colleagues. Navigating Challenging Moments in the Classroom Series
CITLS and CWP are partnering to offer several workshops this term to help faculty anticipate, navigate, and reflect on “HOT” (heated, offensive, or tense) moments in the classroom.
We’ll discuss real-world scenarios and practice strategies to help our students (and each other) engage and disagree with respect, pause and reflect when emotions run high, and transition back to learning after stressful interactions. All are welcome to attend.
Hanson Visiting Scholar, Mary Murphy
CITLS is excited to participate in The Hanson Center’s Inclusive STEM reading group focused on scholar Mary C. Murphy’s Cultures of Growth: How the New Science of Mindset Can Transform Individuals, Teams, and Organizations (2024). In addition, CITLS will co-sponsor a workshop led by Prof. Murphy when she is on campus this October as the 2026–2027 Hanson Center Visiting Scholar. Join us for a campus-wide presentation Thursday, October 22nd, 4:15-5:30 PM in Kirby 104 and an interactive workshop Friday, October 23rd, 11:45 AM – 1:00 PM in the Wilson Room, Pfenning.
New Faculty Learning Community
All new faculty in their first year at Lafayette are invited to participate in a year-long community designed to support them in advancing their understanding of the college, expose them to campus resources that support pedagogical and scholarly efforts, and provide them with opportunities for informal discussion and community building. This year, it kicked off with a comprehensive orientation August 11th – 13th and will continue on alternating Tuesdays during the lunch hour throughout the semester.
