CITLS is pleased to announce Nandini Sikand, Associate Professor and Chair of Film and Media Studies, and Mary Jo Lodge, Associate Professor of Theater, as the 2021 – 22 CITLS Distinguished Teaching Fellows. Both fellows were selected by the CITLS Advisory Committee and will pursue important topics as the College transitions to more in-person teaching experiences and advances work around equity and inclusion.

Nandini will explore strategies for teaching courses that address issues of race and gender through an abolitionist lens. She is particularly interested in how teaching these topics impacts the dynamics of the classroom environment for all learners especially students of color.

Mary Jo will focus her fellowship year on how faculty members across disciplines and course types can integrate performing arts techniques, namely creative dramatics, into their courses to facilitate active learning and engagement in the material. She considers such strategies to be particularly relevant at a liberal arts institution.

You will hear more from Nandini and Mary Jo in the coming year! We thank all faculty who applied to the fellowship program.
