Effective July 1, 2021, all members of the CITLS Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Community of Practice are eligible to apply for small grants  of $100 – $250 or less to defray the costs of their SoTL work and advance their projects. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted for the fiscal year. Sample usages of the funds are described below. Please note that these examples are not the only types of SoTL-related work that will be funded, and community of practice members are welcome to apply if they have other SoTL-related needs.  

  • Transcription services for qualitative research 
  • Digital tools or software to support SoTL work
  • Short-term employment for a student research assistant to help with SoTL data collection or data analysis. *Note: Please be sure that all student researchers have Human Subjects training for the project and are included on any IRB protocols as relevant*
  • Registration fees or attendance to SoTL-related events, institutes, or conferences 
  • Fees to create a poster to present SoTL work at a conference
  • Publication fees for SoTL articles
  • Books or other resources related to conducting SoTL 

To apply, please complete the application. The application involves specifying how much money is being requested, as well as submitting a 150 – 250 summary describing how the funding supports the faculty or staff member’s SoTL efforts. Afterwards, a CITLS staff member will be in contact with regards to whether the funding is available for the request.

Please note that SoTL scholars can also apply for funding through the Academic Research Committee for their SoTL work as relevant.
