Teaching at a small, private liberal arts institution can be a gratifying experience for faculty, and allow for meaningful learning experiences for students. The focus on developing students’ critical and creative thinking skills, in addition to advancing discipline-specific knowledge and skills, can equip students for success in multiple enterprises. Smaller classes sizes allow faculty to engage more directly with their learners, encouraging the development of positive student-teacher relationships. A strong emphasis on undergraduate student research allows for individualized opportunities for students to experience disciplinary thinking and scholarship.
